TU CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO HEALTHCARE EDUCATION

WVSTU: The College of Health Sciences at William V. S. Tubman University (TU) joined nurses and healthcare professionals across Maryland County in celebrating International Nurses Day, reaffirming the university's growing commitment to healthcare education and community service in Liberia.

The celebration brought together nurses, student nurses, healthcare workers, and stakeholders from across the county. Activities marking the occasion included a colorful parade through the streets of Pleebo followed by an indoor program held at the Pleebo City Hall.

The event highlighted the important role nurses continue to play in strengthening Liberia's healthcare system while also showcasing Tubman University's contribution to training future healthcare professionals for the country.

Speaking on the significance of the day , Dr. Olu Q. Menjay, President and CEO of TU, praised nurses for their dedication and service to humanity, especially in rural communities where healthcare challenges remain significant.

Dr. Menjay reaffirmed the university's commitment to producing competent and compassionate healthcare professionals capable of contributing to national development and improving healthcare delivery across Liberia.

Also speaking, Lauretta Copeland Dahn, Chair of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery, described nursing as a noble profession that requires sacrifice, patience, and compassion.
"We celebrate not just the profession, but the resilience and dedication of nurses who continue to provide care under challenging conditions," she stated.
Delivering the keynote address, Veronica G. Nimene, Director of Nursing , Partners In Health Liberia, emphasized the critical role nurses play within Liberia's healthcare system and called for greater support for the profession through improved salaries, professional development opportunities, housing, and increased healthcare funding.

As part of this year's observance under the theme, " Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses and Save Lives," organizers also conducted a two-day free medical outreach in Harper and Pleebo, providing healthcare services to residents in need.
