WVST - William V. S. Tubman University (TU) today reinforced its growing reputation as a hub of academic excellence with the launch of two impactful books authored by a faculty researcher and an alumna, further highlighting the institution's commitment to research, innovation, and national development.
The ceremony, held at the University's Academic Gallery, brought together students, faculty, and administrators to celebrate the achievements of Eunice Seyaker-Moore, a 2019 graduate of the College of Engineering and Technology, and Francis Kloh Fukah, Acting Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Seyaker-Moore's book, "Breaking Borders and Barriers," explores the experiences of Liberian women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), offering both inspiration and a call to action for increased female participation in the field.
Reflecting on her personal journey, the Tubman University alumna emphasizes that the underrepresentation of women in STEM is not due to a lack of ability, but rather systemic barriers such as stereotypes, financial constraints, and limited support systems. Through the fictional character Odell, the book captures the voices, struggles, and aspirations of young women striving to succeed, while promoting resilience, mentorship, and career development.
She further calls for policy reforms, increased awareness, and stronger inclusion of women in engineering and technology, noting that gender diversity remains essential to Liberia's growth and innovation.
Also launched was Fukah's scholarly work, "Legumes and Groundnut Production in the Global South: A Meta-Analysis of Trends, Variability, and Implications for Agriculture and Food Security." The publication provides critical insights into soil fertility, crop nutrition, and sustainable farming practices aimed at improving food security across developing regions.
University officials hailed the moment as a significant milestone. Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs, Alexander Gandyu, praised the authors and urged students to draw inspiration from their achievements, emphasizing the University's commitment to fostering research, innovation, and knowledge creation.
Rev. Matthew Akinselure, Vice President for Administration and Chief Launcher, also commended the achievements, noting that such accomplishments continue to elevate the University's academic standing.
In a separate remarks, both authors expressed gratitude to the University and reaffirmed their dedication to contributing to national development through their respective fields.
Today's book launch not only celebrates individual success but also reflects Tubman University's steady transformation into a center of excellence, where ideas are nurtured, barriers are broken, and knowledge is used to shape a better future for Liberia
We are proud of our alumni network, which spans across industries and continents. Our graduates are equipped with the skills, values, knowledge, and ability to excel in their chosen fields and make a positive impact on society.
