WVSTU: Partners In Health (PIH) Liberia has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with William V.S. Tubman University (TU), with both institutions pledging to deepen collaboration in health education, faculty development, and capacity building.
During a courtesy visit to the university on Monday, July 13, PIH Liberia Country Executive Director, Dr. Maxo Luma, described Tubman University as one of the organization's most important academic partners in Liberia, emphasizing that the university remains central to developing the country's future healthcare workforce.
Dr. Luma said PIH's investment in Tubman University reflects its commitment to building local capacity and supporting the Government of Liberia's efforts to strengthen the national health sector."Whenever I am in Harper, I make it a point to meet with the leadership of Tubman University because their challenges are our challenges," Dr. Luma said. He added that regular engagement with the university's leadership enables PIH to better understand the institution's priorities and identify areas where meaningful support can be provided.
Speaking on behalf of Tubman University President Dr. Olu Q. Menjay, the Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Maria Rebecca Fe- Gueta conveyed the President's appreciation to PIH Liberia for its continued partnership and unwavering support to the university's College of Health Sciences.
Dr. Gueta said Dr. Menjay's vision is to position Tubman University as a leading center for quality education and professional training, a goal being advanced through strategic partnerships with organizations such as PIH Liberia.
She noted that under Dr. Menjay's leadership, the university is expanding opportunities for specialized health training, including the planned introduction of a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Critical Care in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
According to Dr. Gueta, the curriculum for the proposed program has already been developed and submitted to the Liberia Board of Nursing and Midwifery for approval. She also revealed that PIH will support the training of two university faculty members at the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) to strengthen laboratory instruction and practical teaching.
She said these initiatives align with Dr. Menjay's commitment to improving academic quality, expanding graduate education, and producing highly skilled healthcare professionals capable of addressing Liberia's growing health needs.
Dr. Gueta further praised PIH for its sustained contributions to the university, including support for accreditation, laboratory equipment, learning materials, internet connectivity, and the establishment of an e-learning laboratory equipped with more than ten computers.
She emphasized that the long-standing partnership between PIH Liberia and Tubman University continues to play a significant role in advancing the President's vision of transforming the university into a nationally recognized institution of excellenc
