WVST : Tubman University has reaffirmed its commitment to climate leadership and community-driven education following its strong participation in the MRV Climate Action Reception held in Monrovia from March 19-20, 2026.
The event, organized by the Environmental Protection Agency in partnership with Environment and Climate Change Canada and NovaSphere, marked the official close of the MRV Climate Action Project and brought together a wide range of stakeholders.
Speaking during a panel session, Abraham Amaning, representing Tubman University, stressed the importance of the Regional Climate Action Lab established at William V.S. Tubman University. He emphasized that the lab will serve as the scientific backbone to the county's drive to articulate climate reporting.
He also outlined a bold academic approach aimed at making climate education more inclusive. According to Mr. Amaning, the university plans to integrate the Glebo dialect into its Competence-Based postgraduate diploma and certificate programs, a move intended to actively involve traditional leaders and local communities in climate discussions.
He noted that incorporating indigenous language and knowledge systems will help bridge the gap between scientific research and traditional environmental practices, ultimately strengthening Liberia's climate resilience.
The reception drew participation from key national institutions, including the President of the University of Liberia, officials from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and the Ministry of Transport, as well as representatives from Nimba University, Bong County Technical College, and Grand Gedeh University.
International partner NovaSphere was also present, highlighting the importance of global collaboration in advancing Liberia's climate agenda.
Tubman University's contribution to the event underscores its growing role as a hub for research, innovation, and inclusive education, positioning the institution as a key player in shaping Liberia's sustainable future.
