Since the inception of the William V.S. Tubman University, the Center for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), have been working with its students, staff and Faculty, other stakeholders and gender actors collaboratively to ensure supportive interventions that harness efforts of ongoing advocacy, awareness and sanitization campaigns including general social protection programs and activities ongoing on the campuses of Tubman University that enhance teaching and learning for worthy service. As the only University located in Southeastern Liberia, we envisage support that empower and strengthen the Center’s staff, the student populace, faculty and the general staff of the University.
The Center for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) at the Tubman University is a department assigned under the Office of the President, William V. S. Tubman University. The department was previously called the Center for Gender and Development until March 8, 2024 when the name was changed and new responsibilities and functions added to meet current realities as far as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are concern coupled with the reopening of the Access to College and increased enrollment of students including hiring of new and more faculty and staff. The Center has a work-force capacity of three people including a Director, DEI Officer and an Administrative Assistant.
We are engaging, equipping, and empowering our students, staff, and faculty, to embed, evaluate and get evolve into the perspective of change of mindset, and have better version of themselves to make positive decisions that impact the community, regardless our difference for unity in our diversities. Like the mythical Phoenix Bird, William V. S. Tubman University (TU) is rising to the skies. We welcome and embrace the act of collaboration both local and international organizations and institutions across Liberia, Africa and the world.
We are gender sensitive in addressing issues of gender abuse and violence against women, men, girls and boys in all forms and manners. We respect cultural diversity, accepted norms, values and rights for excellence transformation and service delivery. We are currently focus on the following priority areas and campaigns including but not limited to:
Education on cultural diversity, ways of life, accepted norms and respected values for inclusion.
Advocacy for need assessments, and surveys that support research findings at Tubman University.
Development of a holistic gender & inclusion policy that focus on diversity, equity and inclusion.
Advocacy for staff capacity buildings (scholarships and trainings), both internal and external.
Advocacy for women inclusion in leadership and equal participation.
SGBV/SEA/rape/domestic violence management & reporting mechanism/pathway
Advocacy for program continuation on small business program management for self–reliance and opportunities to foster entrepreneurial activities.
Advocacy on improved working climate for women serving instructional roles at Tubman University.
Organizing tutorials to close gaps in mass failures entrance test and specific areas across the University.
Creating awarenesses to help students understand their sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
