September 21 2025 - William V. S. Tubman University (TU) proudly announces the arrival of 100 new scholarship beneficiaries. This support comes from the Liberia Maritime Authority (LIMA), led by Commissioner Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe, Sr.
Commissioner Lighe spoke at Tubman University's 2025-2026 Academic Year Opening Convocation. He encouraged students to focus on discipline and academic excellence as they become Liberia's future leaders. He confirmed that LIMA's investment in education is part of its effort to build the nation, especially for students from Liberia's southeastern region.
To fulfill this commitment, LIMA started a fully funded scholarship program to sponsor students from Maryland, Grand Kru, River Gee, Sinoe, and Grand Gedeh Counties. The program aims to reduce the financial burden on students and their families while developing the human resources Liberia needs for sustainable growth.
TU's Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, under Director Anthony F. Doe, Jr., organized a special orientation session for the 100 recipients. The session covered training on the Smart School online portal, email registration, and signing a scholarship commitment bond to ensure students remain accountable academically and personally.
Each student agreed to keep a GPA of 2.50, 3.00, or above. They also committed to avoiding misconduct, which includes demonstrations, inappropriate social media posts, or any actions that could disrupt the university community.
Dr. Olu Q. Menjay, President and CEO of Tubman University, thanked Commissioner Lighe and LIMA for what he called a transformative partnership. He stated, "On behalf of the entire TU family, I thank Commissioner Lighe and the Liberia Maritime Authority for their vision and generosity. This scholarship is not just financial assistance; it is a vote of confidence in our students' potential and a major investment in Liberia's future. We urge all 100 beneficiaries to seize this opportunity by striving for academic excellence and embodying integrity and service."
Tubman University is committed to building partnerships with national and international groups to broaden opportunities for students and prepare future leaders.
