WVSTU: The President of William V. S. Tubman University (TU), Dr. Olu Q. Menjay, has challenged newly inducted students to look beyond the university's geographical location and embrace the opportunities, academic excellence, and possibilities the institution offers.
Speaking Friday, September 11 206 at the UNiversity's 11th First-Year Student Induction Ceremony, held under the theme, "Let's Keep the Fire Burning," Dr. Menjay urged the students to reject the perception that Tubman University is merely a "rural university" because of its location in Maryland County.
Instead, he encouraged them to view TU as an institution where dreams can be nurtured, knowledge transformed into opportunities, and students prepared to compete and make meaningful contributions beyond Maryland County and Liberia.
"You must see Tubman University as a university where quality education and excellence can prepare you to compete and make an impact beyond Maryland County," Dr. Menjay emphasized.
The TU President reminded the first-year students that their future should not be defined by geography. He encouraged them to take pride in being members of the university community and to use their years at TU to develop the knowledge, confidence, character, and skills necessary to succeed in an increasingly competitive world.
Dr. Menjay also challenged the students to build identities of their own, stressing that who they become will ultimately be shaped by their character, conduct, education, and achievements.
"Build your own identity through your character, your conduct, your education, and your achievements," he urged.
He further encouraged the students to work hard, remain disciplined, uphold good character, and take their education seriously.
He urged them to make the most of every opportunity available at Tubman University and leave the institution better prepared to serve their communities, Liberia, and the wider world. See less
