Dr. Olu Q. Menjay is a distinguished scholar, educator, and transformative leader with over 25 years of experience in senior leadership across educational, non-profit, and interdisciplinary sectors. He currently serves as the fourth President of William V. S. Tubman University (TU), a role he assumed on September 25, 2023. Under his leadership, TU is undergoing strategic transformation, emphasizing academic excellence, institutional sustainability, global collaboration, and inclusive community engagement.
Prior to his presidency at Tubman University, Dr. Menjay held several prominent leadership positions, including nearly 16 years as the Chief Administrative Officer and Principal of Ricks Institute in Liberia, where he played a pivotal role in ensuring financial resilience and institutional growth. He also served as the inaugural Executive Director of Virginia Union University-Africa and as the Chief Executive Officer of Global Culture Education Initiatives, further demonstrating his commitment to educational advancement and global engagement.
A passionate advocate for student-centered policies and faculty development, Dr. Menjay has been instrumental in fostering national and international partnerships, study-abroad opportunities, and interdisciplinary collaborations. His leadership philosophy prioritizes inclusivity, innovation, and cross-cultural engagement. He is also a certified Scrum Master, ensuring the integration of agile methodologies in institutional management and team development.
Dr. Menjay’s academic contributions extend beyond administration. He has served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Religion at Mercer University and has lectured widely on leadership, education, and theology. A prolific writer and speaker, he has published numerous articles, editorials, and book chapters and has presented at international conferences. His commitment to scholarship is further reflected in his membership in esteemed organizations, including Alpha Kappa Delta (International Honor Society of Sociology), Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and the International Association for Mission Studies.
A dedicated serving leader, Dr. Menjay has held various national and international leadership positions, including two terms as President of the Liberia Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention (2012–2020), Second Vice President of the Liberia Council of Churches (2017–2021), and an executive member of the Liberia Inter-religious Council. His leadership contributions have also extended to public service, having been appointed by Liberia’s President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to Chair the Board of Directors of the Liberia Telecommunication Corporation (2011–2013). Additionally, he has played a significant role within the Baptist World Alliance, serving as Vice President (2010–2015) and Chair of the Commission on Human Rights Advocacy.
Dr. Menjay’s exceptional leadership was recognized in the 2008 book Portraits of Courage: Stories of Baptist Heroes, where he was featured as a “Baptist Rebuilder,” alongside global figures such as former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. In 2019, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree by the Liberia Baptist Theological Seminary in recognition of his profound contributions to education, faith, and society.
His academic journey spans multiple institutions and continents, reflecting a commitment to intellectual rigor and interdisciplinary scholarship. Dr. Menjay holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Contextual Missiology and Education from the University of Wales (2009), a Master of Sacred Theology (STM) in African Religion and Cultural Studies from Boston University (2004), a Master of Divinity (MDiv) in Practical Theology from Duke University (1998), a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Sociology (with honors) and Religion from Mercer University (1995), and an Associate of Arts (AA) magna cum laude in Business Administration and Management from Truett McConnell College (1993).
Dr. Menjay continues to shape the landscape of higher education and global learning, championing equitable access, institutional excellence, and transformative leadership in Liberia and beyond.
