WVSTU: President and CEO of William V. S. Tubman University (TU), Dr. Olu Q. Menjay, has called on faculty and staff to place students at the center of the University's operations, stressing that the institution's purpose and success are fundamentally tied to the students it serves.
Dr. Menjay made the call Monday during TU's 17th Opening Convocation for the 2026-2027 Academic Year, held at the TU Pavilion on the University's main campus in Harper, Maryland County.
Addressing students, faculty, staff, and administrators, President Menjay highlighted several achievements and ongoing initiatives aimed at advancing the University. He, however, emphasized that institutional growth must be accompanied by a strong commitment to quality and student-centered service.
"No students, no faculty or staff," Dr. Menjay declared, underscoring the critical role students play in the life and operation of the University.
He urged faculty and staff to demonstrate professionalism, responsibility, and greater commitment in their interactions with students, noting that every academic and administrative service should contribute to a positive learning experience.
"We must prioritize our students in the work that we do," President Menjay stressed.
According to the TU President, faculty and staff must recognize that their responsibilities go beyond performing routine duties and should ultimately contribute to students' academic growth, development, and success.
"Everything we do as faculty and staff must reflect the understanding that our students are our priority," he said.
Dr. Menjay called for stronger collaboration across the University to create an environment in which students receive the academic and administrative support necessary to achieve their goals.
His message at the opening convocation reinforced TU's commitment to a student-centered institutional culture as the University begins the 2026-2027 Academic Year, with renewed emphasis on service, accountability, professionalism, and student success.
